WARNER, Okla. —
Connors State scored two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to beat Northern Oklahoma College Enid 9-6 in junior college baseball action Thursday.
The Jets (9-18) rallied back from a 6-1 deficit with two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh, but could not hold off the Cowboys.
Sammy Terry’s two-run homer in the seventh tied the game at 6-6, but Connors scored the eventual winning run in the seventh on a balk and added an insurance run on an RBI single by Korey Keith.
Justin Ferrell held the Jets scoreless in the eighth and ninth to secure the win for Connors.
“Losing close games is always hard,’’ said Jets assistant coach Scott Mansfield. “They played hard for all 27 outs and gave themselves a chance to win. That’s all we can ask them to do.’’
Russ Colgan was 4-for-5 with two RBI to pace the Jets’ 14-hit attack.
Korbin Polston was 2-for-4 while Dyce Applegate was 1-for-1 with two RBI. Adam Dolan was 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Zach Bradford, who kept the Jets in the game by blanking the Cowboys in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, took the loss.
Connors jumped out front with two runs in the first and four in the second.
Yariel Gonzalez was 4-for-4 and scored twice for the Cowboys.
Colgan started the Jets rally when he tripled home Applegate in the third.
The Jets added two runs in the fourth when Applegate singled in Terry, who had walked, and Colgan singled in Dolan, who had reached base on a single.
NOC Enid cut the lead to 6-4 in the sixth when Dolan tripled and scored on Applegate’s sacrifice.
Terry tied the game in the seventh with his two-run homer. It scored Polston, who had singled.
NOC Enid hosts NEO in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Failing Field.
