Forell, Vogt named OBA Prep Classic MVPs
Alva’s Cody Forell and Okarche’s Morgan Vogt topped the OBA Prep Classic Powered by KGWA Sports All-Tournament teams announced late Saturday.
Forell was named boys most valuable player after scoring nine points in the Goldbugs’ 38-35 win over Okarche in the championship game. He had 42 points for the three games.
Vogt had 22 points in the Lady Warriors’ 48-43 win over Alva in the girls finals. She had 55 points for the tournament.
The rest of the boys all-tournament team were Nolen McClure of Wichita Home School, Danner Kiernan of Chisholm, Preston Atwood of OBA, Cade Pfleider of Alva and Sam Grellner of Okarche.
The rest of the girls all-tournament team were Katy Forell of Alva, Megan Galusha of Chisholm, Rae Grellner of Okarche, Kylee Ladd of Ripley and Jaden Hobbs of Alva.
Perry, Oliver lead Cowboys over Sooners
NORMAN — No. 2-ranked Oklahoma State got a technical fall from 174-pounder Chris Perry and major decision from 149-pounder Jordan Oliver in beating No. 10-ranked Oklahoma 26-9 Sunday.
The Sooners won only two matches — Kyle Garcia’s 3-2 win over Eddie Klimara at 125 and Kendric Maple’s fallover Julian Feikert in 5:57.
Phillies confirm trade for Rangers’ Young
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired seven-time All-Star infielder Michael Young from the Texas Rangers for two relief pitchers.
The deal was announced Sunday, a day after Young agreed to waive his no-trade clause. The Phillies are sending right-hander Josh Lindblom and minor league righty Lisalverto Bonilla to the Rangers to get Young, who fills a void at third base. The Rangers will pay a significant portion of Young’s salary for 2013. Young is due to earn $16 million. Reports said the Phillies will pay him about $6 million.
