NOC Enid names Roberts softball coach

ENID, Okla. — Jamie Roberts has been selected to lead the newly established Northern Oklahoma College Enid softball program, which begins play in August, it was announced Thursday by the school.

“She is currently recruiting her first softball class and has nine commitments so far,” said NOC Enid athletic director Raydon Leaton.

Roberts, a Del City native, comes to NOC Enid after serving as head fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball coach for Purcell High School for seven years, and prior to that she coached the Putnam City West High School team for one season. She has an overall coaching record of 355-117 (.752).

During her high school coaching career, Roberts’ teams won nine district championships, seven regional championships and made 10 consecutive state tournament appearances. She led her teams to a 5A state championship in 2011 and runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2010. While at Purcell, she coached 13 All-Staters and helped 17 players receive college scholarships.

Roberts has earned several awards, including the 2012 Region 5 Coach of the Year, 2011 Large West All-State Coach, 2011 Canadian Valley Coach of the Year and 2009 Sooner Conference Coach of the Year.

She was a three-time NAIA All-American, NAIA Scholar-Athlete and NFCA Academic All-American at St. Gregory’s University.

Roberts graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Gregory’s, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in health and sports science and earned a master’s in education with emphasis in sports administration from East Central University in July 2012.

Roberts said she is excited about the prospect of heading the first-ever NOC Enid softball program and looks forward to adding to the school’s athletic accomplishments.

“Softball is a passion that has been placed in my heart, and I feel so blessed to be able to advance my passion and experiences to the next level,” she said. “I am truly excited for the opportunity to join the NOC family, and I would like to thank all those who have contributed to making this dream of mine a reality.”

Roberts is married to Ron Roberts. The couple has one child, a daughter, Annabelle Reese.

The addition of the softball program was approved by the NOC Board of Regents in September. The regents approved two NOC Enid athletic program change recommendations during the meeting. The first of the two recommendations eliminated the women’s volleyball program at the conclusion of the fall 2012 season, and the second added the women’s softball program, beginning fall 2013.
