Minors down Stillwater

Enid News and Eagle

STILLWATER, Okla. —  Matt Mills threw a six-hitter and Braden Rogers had four RBI as the Enid Minors beat Stillwater 9-2 in the final day of pool competition at the Brad Holt Memorial Tournament Saturday night.

Mills struck out nine and walked one in going the distance as the Minors raised their record to 13-19 overall.

“He threw a lot of first-pitch strikes,’’ said Minors coach Seth Sturgeon. “He had his curve and splitter going. They didn’t know how to handle him.’’

Rogers was 3-for-3 with all the hits coming with two outs. Enid broke the game open with four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

“It’s a good win,’’ Sturgeon said. “Stillwater is in the finals (today) so it shows what we’re capable of doing if we do things right and play consistent baseball. Zach (co-coach Gonzalez) has been working on their swings and it’s starting to come around a little bit.’’

Enid will host Les Beckham League rival Southwest Shockers in a 6 p.m. doubleheader at David Allen Memorial Ballpark Monday.
