ENID, Okla. —
Enid’s swimmers will have to wait a week before competing in the regional swim meet at Jenks.
Because of weather conditions, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association chose to set back both the Jenks and Edmond Regionals — originally scheduled for Friday and today — to next Friday and Saturday.
“I hope it doesn’t hurt us mentally because we were ready to swim today,’’ said Enid coach Ginny Shipley. “It gives us another week to practice, but we have to be careful how we practice so it doesn’t affect our taper for state.
“The good thing about it is everybody is in the same boat. I’m sure everybody’s kids were ready to swim today. If I had my choice, I would have done it today (Friday and today), but obviously somebody couldn’t get there.’’
The top eight from each regional qualify for the state meet Feb. 21-22.
The next eight best times from the two regionals also qualify.
