BETHANY — Playing on back-to-back nights following a 78-69 overtime loss Wednesday at home to Cowley County (Kan.) Community College, Northern Oklahoma College Enid Jets rebounded Thursday night by defeating Southwestern Christian JV 88-60.
Sophomore Xavier McClish had 19 points to lead the Jets, while freshman Connor Brooks added 11 points. The Jets had 12 players score in the victory.
“We competed better tonight,” Jets assistant coach Ryan Mahoney said. “Defensively we had more energy, more effort and we were a little more focused.”
NOC Enid led 39-25 at halftime and utilized a big, 49-point second half to put the game away.
“They came out and tried to press us in the second half and we were able to shoot a lot of free throws and lay-ups,” Mahoney said.
“As a whole, the freshmen are starting to definitely understand the speed of the college game and after the loss to Cowley, it showed them they have to play all 40 minutes.”
The Jets (5-1) will return home Monday to the Mabee Center when Redlands Community College comes in for the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Association conference opener for both teams.
“I can’t believe it is already here,” Mahoney said. “It’s good to start conference play at home. It will be good to get the first game under our belt.”
