Jets split with Murray State

TISHOMINGO, Okla. — NOC Enid men’s basketball team had four players in double figures in blowing out Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Murray State 77-46 Thursday.

Murray State (7-6, 3-1) defeated NOC Enid (10-6, 2-3) in the women’s game, 68-58 behind a 26-point effort from University of Kentucky recruit Ivana Jakubcova.

The Jets (11-4, 2-3) outscored the Aggies 42-28 in the second half after leading only 25-18 at halftime.

Ju’wan Smith led the Jets with 15 points, followed by Marquavius Williams with 12, Jordan Evans with 12 and Lucas Morales with 11.

The closest the Aggies could get in the second half was six, 27-21, as the Jets steadily pulled away from the Aggies (2-14, 2-2).

The Aggies came into the game averaging only 48 points per game.

The first half featured five ties and three lead changes. Smith had 11 second-half points, while Evans had 10 and Morales 9.

E.J. Golighty led the Aggies with 16 points.

“We did well tonight,’’ said NOC Enid coach Drew Bridges. “We played one of our better defensive games of the year. We started off a little slow, but pulled away.’’

The 6-foot-6 Jakubcova was virtually unstoppable. She had 14 points in the second half. She gave the Lady Aggies a 31-29 halftime lead with a shot with 10 seconds remaining.

NOC Enid did not have a three-point basket as the Lady Jets were held to their lowest scoring output of the season.

Breck Clark led the Lady Jets with 15, followed by Rylie Swanson and Tierra Coffey with 10.

Murray State broke up the game midway through the second half with an 8-0 run to go up 56-47 after a basket by Jakubcova.

The closest the Lady Jets could get after that was seven — 56-49. The Lady Aggies led by as many as 12 in the final few minutes.

NOC Enid will be back in action Monday when it hosts OCAC rival Redlands in a 6 p.m. doubleheader at the Mabee Center.
