Pioneer splits with Hennessey

Hennessey freshman Addi Meeker scored all of her 18 points with six of the Lady Eagles’ 11 three-pointers to beat visiting Pioneer 71-38.

Skyler Holder scored 10 of her 18 in the opening quarter, when Hennessey outran Pioneer 22-7 to take a lead that never would change hands, growing until the final margin, the game’s largest.

Hennessey opened the game on a 12-1 run snapped by a three from Pioneer’s Carli Woolsey, who finished with a team-best 13.

Woolsey’s three narrowed the margin to 12-4, but Holder hit a three on the next possession to push the lead back up to double digits, and it never did shrink back to single numbers, as Hennessey finished the frame on a 10-3 run and never was challenged in the final three quarters.

Meeker’s six makes from three was a career high, besting the five treys she hit in her first high school game.

“She can shoot,” said first-year Hennessey coach Marty McBride. “She’s really talented. She’s a freshman, so she learns one game, and plays well that next game.”

Kylee Blehm scored 15 for Hennessey, which improved to 4-0 with the win. Lexsie Mann scored nine for Pioneer, which fell to 2-3. 쇓

With a fifth Brickyard 400 victory on the line Sunday, Jeff Gordon looked like the driver he was 20 years ago.
Gordon nailed the final restart of the race — no given because restarts have been Gordon’s Achilles heel — to pass Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne with 17 laps remaining at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
