Panthers shut down Wolverines

GARBER, Okla. —  Pond Creek-Hunter Panthers (6-0, 5-0) took a big step in District B-1 Friday in a 42-16 rout of Garber (5-1, 4-1) at Warren Dell Stadium.

Senior Brady Krittenbrink unleashed a fury, scoring six touchdowns on runs of 2, 8, 7,1, 10 and a 13-yard pass from Josh Irvin to propel the Panthers in the big B-1 victory.

The first half was disastrous for Garber when three turnovers and two big defensive stops by Pond Creek-Hunter on fourth down resulted in five Panthers’ scores and a 30-0 cushion at halftime.

The Wolverines were unable to sustain any offense as the Panthers’ defense frustrated Garber throughout.

“Our defense stepped up and played well,” Panthers head coach David Kerr said. “We had struggled some, but we stepped up to the challenge tonight.”

Garber head coach Mark Harmon said the Wolverines could not get anything going in the loss and credited Pond Creek-Hunter with that.

“We got it handed to us tonight,” Harmon said. “Pond Creek-Hunter has an awful good team and I don’t think we gave ourselves a chance.

“Our offense was horrible. I’m in charge of that so we have to do something to fix it. Those turnovers in the first half was more than we’ve had all year.”

Pond Creek-Hunter was able to run the ball, grabbing 322 yards on the ground.

“Our offensive line blocked great tonight,” Krittenbrink said. “We were able to drive the ball all night.”

The win puts the Panthers in a good position in the district with four games left.

“You cannot let up in our district,” Kerr said. “It was a great win against a great team. We won with a great team effort tonight.”

Garber was able to score touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters on a Trenton Harmon 10-yard run and a Colby Canady 23-yard run. But it wasn’t enough as Pond Creek-Hunter scored twice in the second half to put the game away.

“They hit us in the mouth and I don’t think we liked it very much.” Harmon said.

Garber travels to Laverne next week while Merritt comes to Pond Creek-Hunter for homecoming.
