Harriers please coach at pre-state

EDMOND, Okla. — Enid beat Union Friday.

In girls cross country.

The Pacers were 12th at a pre-state meet at Edmond Santa Fe High School, while the Redskins were 14th.

Enid, in coach Joe Miranov’s estimations, were sixth among eastern-bound teams. The top seven finishers at the regionals Oct. 20 will qualify for state.

Abby Resendiz was 29th in a season-best time of 12 minutes and 32.77 seconds over the two-mile course. Holly Stuart was 30th in a season-best time of 12:33.09.

Other EHS times were Andi Pierce, 52nd, 12:55.14; Tyler Berge, 82nd, 13:15.18; Savannah D’Auteuil, 87th, 13:20.67; Autumn D’Auteuil, 108th, 14:00; and Rachel Pyper, 132nd, 13:35.40. Pyper sprained her ankle on the second mile, but finished.

“This give us a pretty good idea of where we stand for regionals,’’ Miranov said. “The girls ran great. I was really pleased with the times.’’

The boys were 18th, but had five runners under 20 minutes, which was Miranov’s goal for the meet.

Dalton Birchfield, 85th, 18:41.76 and Nate House, 94th, 18:53.98, were under 19 minutes for the first time this season for the Plainsmen.

Other EHS times were Jake Taylor, 101st, 19:11.56; Garrett Wallace, 113th, 19:31.53; Hunter Childs, 122nd, 19:54.21; Blake Recknagel, 133rd, 21:50.78; and Brandon DeBrun, 135th, 21:51.58.

“We’re a young team,’’ Miranov said. “I’m excited about those times.’’

EHS’ next meet will be at Stillwater Tuesday.
