Union holds key to
EHS playoff chances
Enid will be in the rare position of rooting for Union tonight when the Redskins host Ponca City in a District 6A-4 soccer game.
The Plainsmen’s fate rests in the hands of Union. If Ponca City’s boys (3-3) win, the Wildcats would knock Enid out of the playoffs
Under that scenario, EHS, Ponca City and Union would finish in a three-way tie for third at 4-2.
Ponca City would finish third with a win having beaten both Union and EHS. Union would be fourth by having beaten the Plainsmen 5-0 on March 26.
If Union (4-2 in district) wins, the Plainsmen would finish fourth outright, and visit Owasso on April 30 in the first round of the playoffs.
“It doesn’t happen too often, but we will be rooting for Union,’’ said Enid coach Craig Liddell. “We need them to give them a beating ... but just beating them will do.’’
Moore (3-4) was eliminated from playoff contention after losing to Bixby (5-1) on Friday. Bixby and Jenks play for the district championship tonight.
