ENID, Okla. —
No. 2 Broken Arrow used seven pins to easily defeat Enid 66-12 in a district dual wrestling match at Waller Middle School Tuesday.
The Plainsmen got falls from 170-pounder Issac Barron, who defeated Gavin Rees in 1:30 and 195-pounder Caleb Harris, who stopped Gage Kaiser in 2:38.
EHS coach Corey Clayton said how the Plainsmen react in today’s practice will be more important than the score.
“We’ll see what kind of team we have,’’ Clayton said. “If we come in more determined than we did yesterday (Monday), we’re going to have a promising season.
“If we come in and the intensity level has not picked up, we’re not working the way we need to, and we’ll have the same results down the road.’’
Clayton said he wanted a tough schedule to prepare Enid for the regional and state tournaments.
“These are the kinds of kids you have to beat to qualify for state,’’ he said. “We’re going to see a lot of this down the road. How we respond will determine the success level we have. We have a challenge ahead of us in the next two months.’’
Returning EHS state qualifier Anthony Gonzales, in his first match of the season, wrestled what Clayton called a “tough match’’ in a 9-1 loss to defending state champion Tanner Bailey.
Kenau Quinn, at 113 pounds “was just a takedown away at the end,’’ according to Clayton in a 7-5 loss to Broken Arrow’s Jeremiah Ivy.
The Plainsmen go to the Norman Tournament Friday and Saturday in their last action before the Christmas break
