Swimmers host Owasso, Putnam City West for dual meet

Enid’s swimmers will be in the pool for the first time since Nov. 20 today when the Pacers and Plainsmen host Owasso and Putnam City West at 5 p.m. at the Denny Price Family YMCA Aquatic Center.

Enid had a swim dual postponed Nov. 30 because of last week’s snowstorm.

“I think we’ll be OK,’’ said EHS coach Susan Glasgow.

Both Owasso and Putnam West appear to have good-sized teams, Glasgow said.

Glasgow’s first goal is to get in as many swimmers in as many different events as possible.

“There’s going to be a lot of parents there,’’ she said. “You want them to see their child swim in more than one or two events. We want everybody to be in three or four.’’

Glasgow will used as many different combinations as possible to get a maximum of swimming a state qualifying time in a relay.

A state qualifying time (either in a relay or an individual event) is one of the criteria for lettering in swimming at Enid.

“That’s real important for the kids,’’ Glasgow said. “Even if they’re not going to state, they want a state cut so they can letter.’’

Jon Megli (100 free) and Rebecca Holthoff (100 back) are closing in on state qualifying times. Megli will need a 54.50. Holthoff will need a 1:10.

Anna Megli, who has seven state cuts, will be in the 100 butterfly and 100 back. It’s the first time she swam either event this season.

The Shawnee meet has been rescheduled for Jan. 5. EHS has one more home meet this month — Dec. 15 with Harrah.

Glasgow is giving her team Friday off so they can attend Enid’s 6A state championship game with Jenks.
