Jets cruise, 100-42

Staff reports

Ethan Candyfire, a freshman from Carnegie, got his college basketball career started in an impressive way Monday at the Mabee Center.

The 6-foot-5 post was 6-for-7 from the field for 12 points, all in the first half, to lead Northern Oklahoma College Enid to a runaway 100-42 victory over the Oklahoma Wesleyan junior varsity in the season opener. Preseason All-American Ben Smith, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, also scored 12 points for the Jets, who had no trouble in routing the overmatched ballclub from Bartlesville. Christian Simmons, one of only three sophomores on the roster, added 10 points.

NOC Enid coach Greg Shamburg was able to use his entire roster in the game, and everyone scored. Chance Cravens and Austin Davis, both of Enid, scored six points and three points, respectively, in their college debuts. Ringwood freshman Kyler Patterson scored three points.

The Jets forced Oklahoma Wesleyan into 29 turnovers, including 16 in the first half. NOC Enid outscored Oklahoma Wesleyan 46-16 in the second half.

NOC Enid guard Matt Guillory, a 5-8 freshman from Houston, and Simmons hooked up for the highlight play of the game on a fastbreak when Guillory served an assist off the glass to Simmons, who completed the breakaway dunk.

NOC Enid struggled from the foul line, hitting just 25 of 43 attempts. The Jets were 35-for-72 from the field.

The Jets return to action Wednesday when they travel to Pratt (Kan.) College.
