’Horns face test against Hennessey

By Joe Malan

Staff Writer

Chisholm defensive end and right guard Adam Wofford believes the Longhorns have a shot at taking down undefeated Hennessey this Friday.

“We have as good a chance as anybody,” said the 5-foot-11, 215-pound senior during practice Tuesday.

Coming off a 28-26 loss to Pioneer last Friday, Chisholm will have a tough test this week against the unbeaten Eagles. The Eagles are ranked third in Class A.

Hennessey already has topped other Class A contenders Okeene and Oklahoma Bible Academy this year, and is looking to run the table.

The key player for Hennessey’s offense is quarterback Matt Luetjen, who has run for 12 touchdowns and thrown for 13.

Wofford and fellow defensive player Alex Collums know they must stop Luetjen if they are to have any chance of winning.

But Collums agrees with Wofford that they have a shot.

“We have nothing (to lose), they have everything,” the senior defensive lineman said.

Both said the Longhorns’ number one priority is to contain the running game.

“We gotta stop the run,” said Collums, “force (Luetjen) into bad passes, making mistakes.”

Collums, at 5-11 and 180 pounds, has started both his junior and senior year for the Longhorns. He also plays tackle on offense.

Wofford, meanwhile, started his freshman year on the defensive line. But he took a break from the team his sophomore year — something he regrets.

“I always know that’s something I won’t be able to get back,” he said.

Wofford initially hoped to one day play for the University of Oklahoma. Now, he said, he realizes that’s unlikely, but he still wants to play in college, maybe for the University of Central Oklahoma.

Collums wants to play at Oklahoma State University.

After Friday’s home game against Hennessey, Chisholm finishes the season Nov. 6 at Mooreland.

Collums knows both games won’t be an easy win.

“We can’t take (either of) them lightly,” he said.
