Mannford upsets Pacers

BROKEN ARROW — August 23, 2008 12:55 am

Class 4A power Mannford handed Enid’s softball team its first loss of the season, 3-0 at the Broken Arrow Tournament Friday.
The loss was in between two Enid victories — 3-2 over Union and 2-0 over Sequoyah Claremore.
Ty Washington took the loss against Mannford, which had nine hits.
“We played well against Union, but we forgot how to play against Mannford,’’ said Enid coach Lee Linsenmeyer. “Their pitcher wasn’t as fast and we were trying to swing for the fences. We had a lot of popups. We didn’t respond well.
“Ty pitched well enough for us to win, but we didn’t give her any support.’’
Enid beat Union with a run in the sixth when the game went to an International tiebreaker. Justine Kodesh started the inning on second and scored after a single by Jessica Kodesh and a squeeze bunt by Mary Patocka.
“That was a great bunt by Mary,’’ Linsenmeyer said.
Jessica Kodesh was two for three with an RBI. Justine Kodesh, Patocka, Regan Crowl, Chantel Bay, Alex Jones and Hayley Hudson all had hits. Hudson had an RBI.
Jones allowed only two hits and struck out 10 in getting the win.
Jones struck out 11 against Claremore Sequoyah and allowed only one hit.
Washington drove in two runs in the first. Hudson, Bay and Jessica Kodesh also had hits for Enid.
“We responded well after the Mannford loss,’’ Linsenmeyer said.
The Pacers, 9-1, will play Choctaw and Grove in pool play. They will need to win both games to have a chance to repeat as tournament champions.
