Unbeaten EHS goes to BA tournament

Unbeaten Enid will have a last chance to impress voters today and Saturday at the Broken Arrow Tournament before the coaches’ first softball poll comes out next week.

The Pacers, who won their division last year at Broken Arrow, will play Union, Mannford and Claremore Sequoyah today and Choctaw and Grove Saturday in pool play.

If they win their pool, they will play another pool winner for the division championship.

“I think this tournament is really important for us,’’ said Enid coach Lee Linsenmeyer. “We’re going to be playing some real good teams. If we have a good weekend, we deserve a high ranking.’’

Union and Choctaw, Linsenmeyer said, are top-10 type teams in Class 6A. Mannford and Claremore Sequoyah are annual state tournament teams in 4A.

“We’ll see where we are,’’ Linsenmeyer said. “The temperatures are starting to go up. It will test our conditioning.’’

The Pacers have outscored opponents 48-1 so far this season.

“We got a lot of talented players pushing each other,’’ Linsenmeyer said. “Anyone who takes a day off will be replaced by somebody else. That competition has made for a lot better practices and a lot better games.’’
