Baseball, food and fireworks will be on tap this week during the Fourth of July Tournament at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
The Enid Majors open play in the tournament tonight at 7:45 against Boulder (Colo.).
Other first-round games are Enid AAA against Area AAA at 1 p.m., Ponderosa (Colo.) against the Majors split squad at 3:15 and Woodward against Manhattan (Kan.) at 5:30.
The tournament winner will be decided by best record.
The tournament officially began Wednesday night with the Enid AAA (15-9) beating Boulder 4-0 in five innings.
Starting pitcher Christian LaFontan picked up the victory, tossing a shutout in 41/3 innings.
Kaleb Hulva had a double, and Mikey Bretado drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first. Brady Baugh and Mike Phillips also batted in runs. The Enid AAA managed only three hits.
The Area AAA (16-10) faced Boulder in a non-tournament matchup immediately afterward and won 3-1.
Omar Fierro went four innings, scattering four hits and striking out two in picking up the win.
Matt Regier went 1-for-3 and hit the game-winning, two-RBI single in the fourth. Seth Park and Derek Gilbert also had hits.
On Friday, the ballpark will feature a host of activities, highlighted by the Majors’ game against Manhattan at 7:45 p.m.
A picnic-style dinner will feature Advance Food Company hamburgers, grilled boneless pork chops, potato salad, cole slaw, chips and soft drinks. The cost is $6. The picnic begins at 5 p.m.
Patriotic music will be played throughout the evening. There will be face painting and other activities for children. A 50/50 cash drawing will be held during the Majors’ game. Valet parking will be available at the front gate. The night will conclude with a fireworks display after Enid’s game.
Admission is $5. Children wearing Little League hats or shirts will be admitted free. Military personnel with an ID also get in free.
