Longhorns won't forget Griffin

— The players on Chisholm’s 2004 boys basketball team weren’t surprised when Oklahoma’s Taylor Griffin was selected in the second round of the NBA Draft Thursday by the Phoenix Suns.
Griffin, as a 6-foot-6 senior, led the Oklahoma Christian School Saints to a 80-49 victory over the Longhorns in the Class 3A state semifinals in 2004 at the State Fair Arena.
Griffin was 12-of-14 from the field in a 27-point performance and dominated the offensive boards.
He hit his first eight shots from the field as the Saints took a 34-23 halftime lead.
“He’s a man out there,’’ said Chisholm coach John Boeckman after the game.
The 80 points was the most CHS had allowed that season.
Many have forgotten how Taylor Griffin was considered a very blue chip recruit when he signed with the Sooners.
It’s good to see he’s getting his shot in the NBA. Even he if doesn’t make it, he would be in line for some big bucks in Europe.
A Saints freshman got into the game late that afternoon but didn’t score.
Those Chisholm players can tell their grandchildren that Blake Griffin — the No. 1 pick in the 2009 NBA draft — didn’t score when he played against the Longhorns.
