5 area stars make All-State baseball team

Five area players were named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association small school all-state baseball team, which was released on Friday.
Cimarron’s Shawn Holtzinger and Chase Aebi, Dover’s Eddie Cervantes and Rodney Johnson, along with Hennessey’s Clay Cox were all selected for the honor, which included Class B, A and 2A.
Holtzinger tallied an 11-3 record this spring with 125 strikeouts and a 1.73 ERA, which included four shutouts.
Aebi led the Trailblazers with a .515 batting average with two home runs, 44 RBI, 12 doubles and 36 stolen bases.
Cervantes had a .549 batting average with eight home runs, 63 runs scored and 46 RBI. He also finished with a 7-2 pitching record with a 1.91 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 49 innings.
Johnson tallied a .473 batting average with 66 RBI and 53 runs scored. He also posted a 7-1 record on the mound wtih a 0.84 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 50 innings.
Cox paced the Eagles with a .427 batting average and a .544 on-base percentage. He also had 32 RBI and 14 doubles.
The All-State game will be played at 4:30 p.m. July 28, at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The large school game will follow.
