TULSA — Kerryn Sarwansingh’s strong kick helped give Enid’s boys the third-place medal in the 3,200-meter relay at the Class 6A state track meet at East Central High School Friday.
Sarwansingh was in sixth when he got the baton but had an 800-meter split of 1 minute, 56.9 seconds to bring EHS to third place with a season-best time of 8:01.54.
That was the Plainsmen’s best placing in the event in coach Joe Miranov’s 15-year tenure.
Sarwansingh was joined on the relay by Cody Camacho, Colton Purdy and Tim Richard.
Richard had a personal best time of 9:53.6 in the 3,200 meters but had to settle for seventh.
Aliesha Atkinson qualified fifth in the girls’ 400 meters finals with a time of 58.81. Alison Gracey was 14th in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches.
Atkinson was the only qualifier for the Pacers or Plainsmen in the preliminaries.
“We had a lot of personal best times, which is what you want for the state meet,” Miranov said. “The competition was awfully tough today.”
Competing today for EHS will be Atkinson, Richard and Joel Dutton in the 1,600 meters; Sarwansingh and Camacho in the 800 meters; Samantha Eby in the girls shot put; and Justin Glenn in the boys discus.
