Buckles signs with SNU
Former Pioneer High School athlete Shanna Buckles has signed a softball letter of intent at Southern Nazarene University.
Buckles played basketball at Northern Oklahoma College Enid for two seasons.
Buckles was a much-decorated softball player at Pioneer. She was named to the All-State team and was the Enid News & Eagle Player of the Year. She also was named the MVP of the Skeltur Conference. Buckles also was a standout in track.
“We are really excited about the addition of Shanna to our program,’’ said SNU softball coach Tere Webber. “She is a great athlete and will bring a strong work ethic to our team next season. We think Shanna will have an immediate impact on SNU softball next season.’’
KOFM All-Star game set for May 17
The inaugural KOFM All-Star Basketball Games are set for Saturday, May 17, at Mabee Center on the campus of Northern Oklahoma College Enid.
Athletes from around northwest Oklahoma will compete in boys and girls games. The evening begins with a 3-point shooting contest at 5 p.m., followed by the girls game at 5:30. The boys game will follow at 7.
A girls free-throw shooting contest will be held at halftime of the boys game. The boys free-throw shooting contest will be at halftime of the girls game.
Participants for the boys game include: Enid’s Chaz Chambers, Nick Choate and Antonio Jackson, Alva’s Tyson Gale and Trent Lanie, Calumet’s Ethan Davis, Crescent’s Prince Shaw, Frontier’s Adam Beck, Garber’s Cody Bond, Guthrie’s Kent McDonald, Kingfisher’s Deandrea Tatum, Morrison’s Seth Owens, Okeene’s Taylor Hooper, Pond Creek-Hunter’s Trevor Donnell and Austin Peterson, Stillwater’s Jamell Cormier and Woodward’s Andrew Hickman and Matt Moore.
Boys coaches include Enid’s Will Jones, Morrison’s John Hardaway, Pond Creek-Hunter’s Darin Jones and Crescent’s Bart Watkins.
Participants for the girls game include: Enid’s Natasha Flynn, Alva’s Janae Shafer, Amber-Pocasset’s Korie Hargus, Blackwell’s Sarah Wycoff, Calumet’s Hannah Weldon, Cimarron’s Erin Roush, Cordell’s Darcie Dick, Crescent’s Catherine Haiken, DCLA’s Lainey Reese and Summer Schuelein, Depew’s Coweta Dowdy, Edmond North’s Kelsey Gregory, Fort Cobb-Broxton’s Autumn Klugh and Katie Tilley, Garber’s Alyssa Fuxa and Carly Schnaithman, Kingfisher’s Shiloh Layn, Oilton’s LaTisha Rogers, Okarche’s Maria Baca, Perkins’ Liberty Payne and Stroud’s Sabrina Goddard.
Girls coaches include Garber’s Jamie Davis, Pioneer’s Christy Barnes, along with recently-named coaches Jaci Heaton at Cherokee and Hillary Patterson at Morrison.
Drummond boosters to meet on Thursday
The Drummond All-Sports Booster Club’s annual banquet will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the high school gym, with awards and program immediately following. Dinner will be by donation only. The public is invited. For information, call Deanne Rikli at 603-0044.
More volunteers needed for Pioneer fundraiser

Prairie League tryouts slated Monday at Failing
Enid baseball players currently in the eighth and ninth grade will have Prairie League tryouts at 5 p.m. Monday at NOC Enid’s Failing Park.
