Choctaw downs Plainsmen

OKLAHOMA CITY — Choctaw took advantage of four Enid errors to defeat the Plainsmen 10-6 at the Putnam City baseball festival Friday night.

The Yellowjackets, 15-12, broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning. Two Enid errors proved to be costly for the Plainsmen, who dropped to 20-8 with the loss.

“We didn’t play well at all,’’ said Enid coach Scott Baugh. “We battled back a bit, but then the wheels fell off. I told the guys they have to forget about this and move on.’’

Cody Passmore was 3-for-3 for Enid with two doubles and a single. Zach Gonzalez had a double, single and an RBI, while John Dillingham had two singles and an RBI.

Nick Rountree had an RBI double in the fourth to tie the game for the last time at 5-5.

A three-run homer by Lance Broussard gave Choctaw a 3-0 lead in the first. Two errors led to another Yellowjackets run in the second.

EHS scored four runs in the fourth on a single by Tobin Mateychick, a double by Passmore, singles by Dillingham, Alex Wilson and Dylan Nave and a double by Gonzalez.

Choctaw scored in the third to take a 5-4 lead. Rountree doubled home Dillingham, who had singled, in the fourth.

Enid’s other run came in the fifth. Pinch-runner Robert Gillis scored from third after Mateychick got in a rundown between first and second after reaching on an error.

Jaxson Johnson took the loss for the Plainsmen.

Enid will be back in action Monday when the Plainsmen host Ponca City in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
