OKLAHOMA CITY — Devin Glasgow and Gibson Rose finished fourth at No. 2 doubles to lead Enid’s boys to a seventh-place finish at the Putnam City West tennis tournament Wednesday.
Derek Ogle and Khoung Nguyen were fifth at No. 1 doubles, while Matt Worrell was 10th at No. 1 singles. Alan Tarin, making his varsity debut at No. 2 singles, was 11th.
Glasgow and Rose were 2-2 on the day, losing to Putnam City North’s Seth Cowden and Casey New 6-3, 6-1 in the third-place match. They are now 9-6 overall.
Ogle and Nguyen were 3-1 at No. 1 doubles. Their lone loss was to Putnam City North’s Brian Diefenderfer and Sam Rodwell, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Their record is now 9-6.
Worrell was 2-2 on the day, losing to Lawton Eisenhower’s Tommy Harrison 6-1, 6-3 for ninth.
Tarin was 1-3 on the day but ended with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Curtis Vinson
“We’re showing some improvement,’’ said Enid coach Darrell Herndon. “We still have a long way to go.’’
The Enid girls beat Broken Arrow, 10-2 in a makeup dual at the Ninth Street Courts.
Enid was 3-1 in tournament styles matches, with Emily Fike beating Morgan Chissoe, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Morgan Humphrey and Mackenzie Zaloudek beat Shelby Jackson and Erin Miller, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles while Jala Naguib and Dru Keeling, playing for the first time together, beat Annie Best and Katie Sommers, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles.
Jamie Blackin beat Whitney Wright 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Other EHS singles winners were Humphrey, Zaloudek, Keeling, Naguib, Unruh and Zelnicek. Unruh and Zelcinek also won in doubles.
“The girls played very well,’’ said Enid assistant coach Carl Gaebler.
The boys will go to the Muskogee Tournament Friday while the girls will go Saturday.
