What's better -- a tightly packed small gym or a not-so-packed big arena?
Enid's wrestlers, who usually wrestle before sparse crowds at Mark Price Arena, might have an answer after they host Blackwell at 7 tonight at Emerson Junior High School.
A smaller gym, said Plainsmen coach Shane Kerr, should be louder and more intimidating than Mark Price Arena. However, Emerson lacks the prestige of wrestling at the arena.
The Plainsmen are scheduled to return to Mark Price Arena for their dual with Watonga Jan. 12.
"The kids kind of look down at wrestling at a junior high," Kerr said. "We want to try to get the crowds up at Mark Price. I don't care where we wrestle as long as we have a place to go."
Enid lost at Blackwell 52-21 last year. The Maroons are ranked No. 5 in Class 3A by the Oklahoma Wrestling Web site.
The Maroons have two wrestlers ranked in 3A -- freshman Eric Wynn, fourth at 112 pounds, and Justin Menke, second at 130 pounds. Wynn is scheduled to wrestle at 119 pounds against Enid freshman J.B. Stuart.
"J.B. is definitely going to have to battle," Kerr said. "We beat their guys at 215 and heavyweight in the preseason tournaments, but they are pretty solid."
EHS will go with a lineup of John Morrow at 112, Stuart at 119, T.L. Layne at 125, Zac Layne or Jorge Maciel at 130, Greg Siegfried at 135, Alex Cerrezo or Brayden Daniels at 140, Alan Hessely at 145, Cody Wheeler at 152, Lane Singer at 160, Jake Keeling or Helmer Johnson at 171, Cody Roberts at 189, Shane Perosi at 215 and Justin Glenn at heavyweight.
EHS will go void at 103 pounds.
A junior high dual will precede the high school match at 6 p.m.
