School briefs for 5/10/07
Timberlake concert slated
Timberlake music department will present a night of music from Broadway to Hollywood Friday in the high school auditorium.
Dinner will be served 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. in the high school cafeteria followed by the show at 7:30. Cost is $10 in advance or at the door.
Hladik places at state academic meet
Amanda Hladik, an eighth- grade student at Pioneer schools, competed in the Tournament of Champions in El Reno April 14.
Tourna-ment of Champions is the state- level junior high scholastic meet competition. Students take a test to compete, and Hladik placed second in current events and second in humanities.
She is the daughter of Bernard and Mary Hladik of Douglas.
SWOSU scholarships go to local, area students
Taylor Ging of Enid High School has been awarded a Distinguished Freshman Scholarship and Residence Hall Scholarship at South-western Oklahoma State University in Wea-therford.
Ging will be a freshman at SWOSU during the 2007-08 academic year and plans to major in pharmacy. She is the daughter of Trent and Terry Scoggins, and Todd and DeLisa Ging, all of Enid.
The Distinguished Freshman Scholarship provides $3,104 for up to 16 hours of tuition during the 2007 fall and 2008 spring semesters.
Andy Poteat of Drummond High School has been awarded a $500 Residence Hall Scholar-ship at South-western Oklahoma State University and is renewable if certain conditions are met.
Poteat will be a freshman at SWOSU during the 2007-08 academic year. He is the son of Bill and Debbie Poteat of Enid.
Chase W. Shaw of Enid High School has been awarded a $500 Residence Hall Scholarship at SWOSU and is renewable if certain conditions are met.
Shaw will be a freshman at SWOSU during the 2007-08 academic year and plans to major in nursing. He is the son of Ken and Andrea Shaw of Enid.
Kerianne Cox of Enid High School has been awarded a $500 Residence Hall Scholarship at Southwestern and is renewable if certain conditions are met.
Cox will be a freshman at SWOSU during the 2007-08 academic year and plans to major in pharmacy. She is the daughter of Walter and Debra Cox of Enid.
Emma Kataryn Grosz of Oklahoma Bible Academy has been awarded the University Scholar Award and a Residence hall Scholarship at SWOSU.
Grosz will be a freshman at during the 2007-08 academic year and plans to major in music education. She is the daughter of Jerry and Anna Grosz of Lahoma. Mark Shuck is Grosz’s principal.
The University Scholar Award provides $3,936 for tuition and fees during the 2007 fall and 2008 spring semesters. The scholarship is renewable for an additional six semesters of tuition ($9,312) if certain conditions are met.
Justin Lollman of Drummond High School has been awarded the University Scholar Award and a Residence Hall Scholarship.
He will be a freshman at SWOSU during the 2007-08 academic year and plans to major in political science. He is the son of John and Jerre Lollman of Waukomis. Greg Kokojon is Lollman’s principal.

Trekell named art scholar
The United States Achievement Academy has announced Katie Trekell of Enid has been named a United States National Award Winner in art.
The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.
Trekell, who attends Longfellow Junior High School, was nominated for the award by Charla Enns, a teacher at the school. Trekell will appear in the United States Achievement academy’s official yearbook, which is published nationally.
The academy selects USAA winners upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors, and other qualified sponsors and upon the standards of selection set forth by the academy. The criteria for selection are a student’s academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.
Trekell is the daughter of Wendy Trekell-Roberts and the granddaughter of Mike and Norma Aguilar, all of Enid.
Spaeth on dean’s list
Ashley Fanning Spaeth of Enid High School is one of 240 students in the University of Oklahoma College of Allied Health named to the dean’s honor roll for the fall 2006 semester.
In the College of Allied Health, professional and undergraduate students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale to be included on the honor roll, while graduate students must earn a minimum 3.8 grade-point average.
Spaeth is the daughter of Larry D. Spaeth and Karen D. Spaeth, both of Enid.
Ralstin named scholar
United States Achievement Academy has announced Aaron Ralstin from Enid has been named a United States National Award winner in science.

Ralstin is the son of Stan and Carol Ralstin, Enid, and the grandson of Ray and Yvonne Ralstin, Guymon, and Turett and JoAnn Heyer, all of Enid.
Ringwood’s Buller awarded Who’s Who scholarship
Leah Buller, a senior at Ringwood High School, received the 2007 Who’s Who Among American High School Students Scholarship. The $1,000 award, provided by the Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation, is granted annually by Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Inc. to an FCCLA member who is a high school senior. Selection for the award is based on academic excellence, outstanding leadership, and significant volunteer experience.
Buller is serving as the 2006-2007 Oklahoma FCCLA state president. She has been an active chapter member for four years, assuming leadership positions and serving on various committees at the chapter, district and state levels. She also has worked diligently on many community service activities.
This year, in addition to promoting FCCLA in her school and community, and fulfilling her state president duties, Buller has been involved in National Honor Society, student council, yearbook and several instrumental school bands. She also volunteers at her church youth group, and tutors students in grades 3-6 as an Americorps tutor.
Buller’s FCCLA chapter adviser is Debbie Rapp.
“I have witnessed Leah’s positive qualities on a daily basis,” Rapp said. “She gives 100 percent, whatever the task.”
Buller is ranked first in her class. She plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma, where she will study family and consumer sciences and pursue a master’s degree in secondary education. With her degrees she wants to become a family and consumer sciences teacher and an FCCLA adviser.
Pharmacy scholars named
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s College of Pharmacy recently held its annual honors and awards convocation on the Weather-ford campus. Awards were presented to outstanding students in the college.
Among the SWOSU students receiving awards were Tara E. Hemming, Enid, $1,000 Reinhaus Family Foundation Scholarship; and Buster K. McClish, Enid, $1,200 Baucum Family Practice Grant.
