At Security National Bank, personal service goes high-tech

Security National Bank (SNB) of Enid has been around since 1905, and April Danahy, vice president of corporate communication and human resources, said that continuity is something customers like.

Although the landmark bank is speeding up with services like online banking, E-Corp and remote deposit capture, Danahy said that doesn’t mean the human factor is gone.

“It’s actually much more important,” she said. “That’s one of the advantages of being a locally owned bank.”

According to Diana Miller, vice president of operations, Internet banking started at SNB in 2001. Danahy said they are continuing to look for ways to improve customers’ online experiences.

“It’s a great avenue to service existing customers, and also to attract potential customers,” Miller said.

One of SNB’s newer products is called E-Corp, and it allows businesses to view all their accounts on one screen.

“It gives them the opportunity to have 24/7 access to their accounts,” Miller said.

It all goes back to the adage “Time is money.”

“They’re saving time while managing their money,” Danahy said.

With the passage of Check 21, a piece of legislation that allows banks the option of converting checks into images, in 2004, remote deposit capture has become a popular banking option.

“It’s changing the payment landscape,” Miller said. It allows retailers to scan checks and have them deposited immediately electronically, which increases efficiency.

The use of remote deposit capture means writing checks is still a viable means of payment.

“It allows people who don’t use debit cards often to still write checks in some businesses,” Danahy said.

The life cycle of a check can be up to 30 days, Miller said, with older methods of depositing them. But with remote deposit capture, checks can be cleared within minutes.

It also can reduce businesses’ chances of getting stuck with a bad check, since they can be alerted quickly from the bank.

SNB has three Enid locations and two ATM locations.
