Letter: Numerous reasons for endorsing parks plan

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — Recently, there has been a lot of negative talk about the parks proposal in Enid. It seems most of the opposition believes the money could be better spent on our local infrastructure.

Yes, our roads and bridges need more attention than what they are receiving presently, but if this proposal is voted down, it will not divert the money to road improvement. This is a moot point.

There are numerous reasons for endorsing the parks proposal. The new east-side park would raise property values, revive the east side and help it to grow again.

Businesses and neighborhoods would spring up around it. Lower income children would have a safe, clean and modern place to go, lowering crime and encouraging community.

Our parks, bike trails and new downtown create a unique environment that draws businesses and people to our town.

People open businesses and move to towns for more than tax incentives.

The layout, entertainment and parks are major factors in their decision. We want them to choose Enid over other communities, right?

Given the perks, this proposal will bring, it is worth it. Especially when factoring in that we offset our high sales tax with one of the lowest cost-of-living rates in the nation.

If you are opposed to the parks upgrade due to road conditions, perform your civic duty, contact the commissioners, attend meetings and effect change, but do not vote “no” for this proposal.
