Letter: Let us pray for the 26 in Connecticut

ENID, Okla. — As I write this, I have a broken heart and tears are streaming down my cheeks. My thoughts and prayers go out to the little angels that were robbed of their life last Friday in Connecticut.

They died before they lived. When I see their pictures and see their families on television, I cannot keep from crying.

Today, two of the 6-year-olds were buried, the first of the 20 victims that will be buried this week. I really do not know how their families can bear up under such a burden. If something like this happened to any of my family, I don’t see how I could survive, and wouldn’t want to.

How anyone could harm even one of these sweet little innocent souls is far beyond me. I am sure that on judgment day, the killer will reap his reward.

The six educators who were killed are heroes and gave their lives trying to save the lives of those in their charge. They have families that will mourn their loss, and we should all pray for them.

Nothing has had an impact on me as this incident has since my wife’s death eight years ago. Let us all pray for the 26 that were killed and their families and hope this never happens again.

With temperatures soaring to near or above 100, parents need to know they can’t leave their children alone in a locked vehicle. In 10 minutes, a vehicle’s temperature can climb 19 degrees. A child’s body heats up three to five times faster than an adult’s, and it only takes a few minutes before a child can become dangerously overheated, according to Safe Kids USA.

I am beginning to believe that Mellon is the poorest Treasurer we ever had. I would like to be Treasurer. Here would be my policy, and you see if it wouldn’t be the best thing for America:
Save nothing, have nothing in there. Then Congress and the entire nation could have nothing in view only what they made themselves.
    A Candidate.

We caught the vision when, in May of 1961, John F. Kennedy told Congress, and the world, that the space race was no longer to be so one-sided.
“First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth,” he said.
