Jeff Herbel honored as OTA Technology Leader of The Year, gets thumbs up

ENID, Okla. — Thumbs up to Jeff Herbel, Enid Public Schools director of instructional technology, for being named 2013 Technology Leader of the Year by the Oklahoma Technology Association.

Herbel received the award at the recent OTA conference in Oklahoma City.

For more than 25 years, Horn of Plenty has been collecting food that is then given to local agencies that distribute the food to individuals.

Thumbs up for its important fall food drive, which provides crucial support to the food center through Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Traditionally, the most-needed items include tuna, peanut butter and jelly, canned fruit, canned milk, cereal and baby food. Monetary donations are also welcome.

Donations may be sent by mail to 121 N. 16th, Enid, or by taking them to the headquarters between 10 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday.

More thumbs up to longtime hospital volunteer Wanda Cook’s final gift to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center

A hospital volunteer for more than 11 years, Cook left a financial gift to the hospital upon her death earlier this year. With that gift, a Tree of Life was placed in the hallway of the main hospital entrance to commemorate later gifts from others in honor of their loved ones.

“When you think about Wanda’s gift, it will bear fruit,” CEO of St. Mary’s Stan Tatum said. “I look forward to this tree being full and having to add some more branches on the tree.”

Last, but not least, thumbs up to Denny Price Family YMCA’s recent “Sundae’ in the Park” at Government Springs Park.

The well-attended event featured ice cream donated by Integris Bass Baptist Medical Center, a moonwalk and other inflatables, face painting, popcorn, games and music.

Thanks to the YMCA’s Christian Emphasis Committee for sponsoring this wholesome family outing.
