Letter: We don’t have to continue doing ‘nothing’

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — We don’t have to see our Constitution lose its status as the supreme law of the land.

We don’t have to surrender our guns and our 2nd Amendment rights.

We don’t have to give up the finest health care system in the world that represents 1⁄6 of the combined economy of all 50 states to a federal government that has not passed a budget in four years.

We don’t have to continue doing “nothing” as the EPA and other non-elected bureaucrats make regulations that harm and even destroy our businesses, our families and our individual pursuit of happiness.

We don’t have to sit by and watch as our sovereignty is surrendered to the UN and replaced by a one world government.

Bills are being written and submitted by members of the Oklahoma State Legislature, as well as several other states, that can stop the above abuses by an overreaching, overspending federal government.

These bills are a constitutional process, where individual states can declare null and void any action by the federal government that is exerting a power over the people and the states that is not delegated to them by the Constitution.

The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution clearly says: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

This process of nullification is not about states deciding which federal laws to obey, but more correctly, about deciding which laws are constitutional. This is a fundamental duty of the states are clearly intended by those who wrote and ratified the Constitution.

If you are concerned about the abuses mentioned in the beginning of this article, let your senator, representative, governor and other elected state public servants know you support legislation that nullifies unconstitutional power grabs by the federal government.
