Dr. Bob and Betty Shuttee get big thumbs up for receiving Dick Lambertz Memorial Award

ENID, Okla. — Enid is full of caring people who help out charities any way they can.

Dr. Bob and Betty Shuttee are two of those people, and they were honored recently with the Dick Lambertz Memorial Award, presented annually by United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma.

Honorees have to show significant long-term support of United Way with service in key leadership roles, a willingness to be community leaders and exhibiting the personality traits that characterized the late Dick Lambertz — who was gracious, positive about life, family and the community, a hard worker, a friend to everyone and a loving, family person.

Thumbs up to the Shuttees for their contributions.

Thumbs up to Taye Sullivan, a 10-year-old Taft Elementary School student.

He is the Elks National Hoop Shoot winner in the 10-11-year-old category. He won local, district and state competitions and advanced to the national contest. There, he hit 22 out of 25 free throws, then canned five of five to win a four-way playoff for the national crown.

His name will be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

Thumbs up to the more than 70 brave men who recently participated in the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” campaign.

Those men put on high heels and walked from YWCA, 525 S. Quincy, to RSVP, 602 S. Van Buren, all to show support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

It was a fun way to raise awareness for a serious subject.

Thumbs up to everyone who participated in — and donated to — the annual March of Dimes Walk for Babies.

Thousands of dollars are raised annual for research into birth defects.

This year’s co-chairs of the local walk are Dr. Barry and Roxanne Pollard. Their granddaughter, Rebecca Jane King, is Northwest Oklahoma March of Dimes Ambassador. Rebecca was born with a cleft lip and palate on April 29, 2013.

Helping babies is truly a wonderful effort.
