Enid’s Friday forecast is sunny with lots of barbecue

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — Friday’s forecast for downtown Enid is mostly sunny with a 100 percent chance of barbecue.

That’s because the Maria Rae’s & StarTek People’s Choice event will be held Friday during the 2014 edition of the Roberts Ranch Smokin’ Red Dirt Barbecue Festival.

The lip-smackin’, finger-lickin’ great People’s Choice event starts at 6 p.m. Friday on the west side of Convention Hall.

Tickets, which are $8, are on sale at Enid News & Eagle from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More will be available at a ticket booth at Independence and Cherokee beginning at noon Friday.

Bring an empty stomach! The tickets allow you to sample championship ribs from participating barbecue teams. Taste and score each team based on appearance, tenderness and taste.

Judges are asked to sample one rib from a participating team. Ballots must be turned in before 8 p.m. Friday with winners announced at a ceremony at 4 p.m. Saturday at Convention Hall.

People’s Choice is just part of the Roberts Ranch Smokin’ Red Dirt BBQ festival. Visit reddirtbbq. etownthemagazine.com for more.

Congrats to Eagle Marketing, Enid Noon AMBUCS and title sponsor Roberts Ranch for celebrating their ninth year with the festival, which runs Friday and Saturday.

And special thanks to the city of Enid for its continued support of this event and for working to provide parking and electricity for contestants.
