Enid Event Center opens its doors with business expo

ENID, Okla. — Enid Event Center is open for business.

The first event, today’s Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, is just the first in a series of events planned for the facility through the end of the year.

Wednesday’s grand opening showcased the facility, which boasts 74,000 square feet of space. Enid Event Center cost $18 million to construct and is the centerpiece of the $34 million Enid Renaissance Project, which also included renovation of Convention Hall and other projects.

The center can accommodate everything from sporting events to concerts and trade shows.

Under the basketball configuration, the center features 3,200 seats. For concerts, the seating capacity is 3,800, and for trade shows, the configuration includes 192 10-by-10-foot booths with additional space in the concourse. There also is banquet space for 2,000.

So far, Keller Taylor, manager of Enid Event Center and Convention Hall, and his crew have scheduled several events for the facility, which also will be home to Enid High School basketball teams and other athletic events.

Country singer Gary Allan will perform 7 p.m. June 23. He has sold more than 7 million albums. Also performing will be Logan Mize, from Clearwater, Kan.

On June 27, Cirque Musica will be at the center for a 7:30 p.m. performance. The show combines circus performers with classical music.

In December, Sesame Street Live “Can’t Stop Singing” will be here for three performances: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 and 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18.

Tickets for all events are available at EnidEventCenter.com or by calling (855) TIX-ENID.

It’s fair to say it’s been a long, controversial road to get to this point. But, we also must say Enid Event Center is an excellent addition to downtown and has the potential to bring a lot of event and people to Enid. It’s a great-looking building.

We hope people give it a chance and will attend the events coming here. We also urge officials with Global Spectrum to continue to bring quality events to what we see as a quality facility.
