Letter: Enid needs more childcare options

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — Regarding James Neal’s Sept. 28 story “YWCA center certification reduced” in the Enid News & Eagle:

How awful that the YWCA is closing their day care. I worked there briefly just after moving back to Enid, and saw firsthand how much the YWCA invested in their center.

There was a recent remodel, a new and expensive camera system, and a grand re-opening. It seems like the Department of Human Services could work with the YWCA to improve the center rather than effectively forcing it to close.

The YWCA is a willing partner — fully interested in providing high-quality care. Whatever problems have arisen, I’m sure the YWCA worked quickly to resolve them.

This is really tragic: 40 children without care, families scrambling and possibly unemployed childcare professionals. At this time, we need more day care options in Enid, not fewer.  I hope that a different solution can be found.
