Enid development is the biggest housing news since the recent study

ENID, Okla. — We’ve reported previously about Enid’s lack of housing being a “choke point” that stunts our economic growth.

Thankfully, an Oklahoma City-based homebuilder with experience in Enid is planning to start a large housing development near the Brookside addition.

Carland Group LLC confirmed Tuesday plans for the $7 million development, which is being called Forest Ridge Heights.

It will be located west of 30th on Forestridge Drive.

This is the biggest news Enid has had in the housing industry since a study confirmed our desperation for new housing options last July.

Carland Group, which specializes in building homes, has performed work in an area of Enid that needed low-cost homes. Construction began in 2010 on more than two-dozen cottage-style homes.

“Enid is probably one of the most devastated housing markets for affordable housing in the state,” said Terry Carty, with Carland Group. “It’s a definite need.”

Carty is confident the market will be able to support up to 40 new homes.

Kudos to the developer for making this happen.

We realize this is a public issue that requires substantial private development.

The best news is this housing is in the affordable category, which is much needed.

Still, we could use more rentals, apartment complexes and townhouses.

We’d like to see more development. We hope this is the beginning of a trend.
