ENID, Okla. —
Thumbs up to the city of Enid for ending the water conservation plan introduced this summer.
City Manager Eric Benson said he plans to stop water rationing Monday.
Last week, the city had pulled back on the rationing plan, going back to odd-even lawn sprinkling.
That’s good news. The rationing plan was needed this summer as the city suffered from hot temperatures and no rain.
Since temperatures have fallen and we’ve had some rain, it was time to end rationing.
Thumbs up to Harold Hamm and his company, Continental Resources, for donating $10 million to the University of North Dakota to establish a geology school.
Hamm, chairman and CEO of Continental, gave $5 million, and the company gave another $5 million.
The new school of geology and geological engineering will be named for Hamm, who has been known for his generous donations, including $10.5 million to the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma.
Thumbs down to the passing of an Enid institution.
Tia Juana Restaurant, which dates back to at least 1935, served its last customers this weekend.
Owner Kenneth Buchanan, who soon will turn 90, said it was time to close the doors.
Tia Juana was known for its steaks and chicken-fried steaks.
Buchanan certainly has earned his retirement, but it’s always sad to see something that’s been a part of the community disappear.
Thumbs up to Northern Oklahoma College’s new logo and rebranding.
Part of the school’s branding initiative is a new tagline, “Life changing.”
That’s what NOC does — it helps change lives.
NOC is the first step for many students in their post-high school education.
NOC, with campuses in Enid, Tonkawa and Stillwater, provides students with a quality education, allowing them to earn an associate’s degree, then continue one at other schools to receive their bachelor’s degrees.
