I was getting ready for teaching school the morning of Wednesday, May 22nd. I sat down with my coffee to read the Tuesday, May 21st newspaper, as I hadn’t had a chance to read it the day before. As I read about the deaths of elementary school children and babies in Moore, I just cried.
When I got to school at Garfield Elementary, I looked at the students with love for them, and sorrow for the little kids at the Moore schools. They run up to me in the cafeteria and say, “I love you, Miss Tivis!” and give me a quick hug. There is a lot of healing in a hug from a kid.
Whether it is a bad guy with firearms or a tornado, we teachers would give our lives for these little ones. I would not think about it for even a sliver of a second.
These precious little lives mean more to me than my own.
