Will Rogers Daily Telegrams 10-15-2013

ENID, Okla. — WILL ROGERS NOMINATES REED AS ONE OF MISSOURI’S BRAVEST

CORSICANA, Tex. — Nov. 12, 1926. President Coolidge, in his speech lauding the names and bravery of Missouri and Kansas fighters, left out the bravest ones of all, the James Boys and Jim Reed. All three of them were raised under the very shadow of the monument. Whoever compiled his local data was either ignorant or a Republican, perhaps both. Jim Reed has fought the Republicans single handed for fifteen years and never even asked for an armistice.

Yours for more accurate Armistice speeches.

MR. ROGERS MUSES ON CONSCRIPTION OF WEALTH AND FINDS IT TOO GOOD TO COME TRUE

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Nov. 13, 1926. I been reading and studying over President Coolidge’s message to Kansas and Missouri. He brought out Mr. Harding’s idea (he didn’t say it was, but it was) about the conscription of all wealth in case of war.

That sounds fine after the war is over. Funny nobody thought of it before the last war started, and I doubt if you hear anything of it just before the start of the next one. If they did do it, it would be a great enlistment boost for war, as we all know thousands that would go themselves just to see some of the money taken away from the ones that copped it during the last war.

It would be a very interesting experiment and would add novelty to the next war, as we have lots more fellows ready and willing to give lives than we have ones that would give their fortunes. You would have more suicides and heart failures on your hands than you would have shot by bullets.

It was a great idea even when Mr. Harding recommended it, but it’s like a campaign promise; it’s too good to ever come true. It would be worth a war just to try it out.

Yours for serious consideration of promises.

WILL ROGERS SUGGESTS ROCKNE AS COACH FOR ARMY IN NEXT WAR

FORT GIBSON, Okla. — Nov. 14, 1926. The Harvard Lampoon must have written an exceedingly humorous article about Brown to get beat Saturday, 21-0. It’s a compliment to Harvard to say they broke off athletic relations. They haven’t shown any athletics in years.

Why not get Rockne to coach the United States Army in the next war?

ROYAL TRAIN AND ROGERS TRAIN MOVE MR. ROGERS TO COMPARISON

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — Nov. 15, 1926. I see where Ferdinand, the acting King of Rumania, is trying again to get Marie to come home. He wants her out of the banquet halls by Christmas.

The Ford car guy is back in good standing with his upper berth on the royal train again. He tried to make the jumps in one of their products and missed seven receptions.

All serene on my Proletariat Special. Arrive at the Kansas City monument tomorrow.
