Enid News and Eagle
ENID, Okla. —
My brother, Rod, is a professional sax player, whom you featured on a front page last year.
This is his reply to may sending him your news on the Broadway Tower.
Quote: “Thank you for the article on the Broadway Tower. Boy, talk about a cheap price.
My offer of a new name would be Chisholm Tower.
A) Rod Rodriguez and Cal Heer played early-50s with the Charley Down Orchestra in the Enid Business Men’s Club located in the basement of the Broadway Tower.
B) Later in the 50s, Rod played with the same orchestra on Sunday afternoons at the Tower on radio station KCRC. After one show, I asked Charley for a 50 cent raise and he fired me. So much for my musical career at the Broadway Tower and adios Enid, OK; hello California!
C) “I still love Enid, Broadway Tower, Charlie and all my wonderful memories of my hometown.”
I think Rod’s old and new friends will enjoy this as I did.
