Enid News & Eagle
ENID, Okla. —
As member and Chaplain of Northwest Oklahoma Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 66, I am privileged to serve with and for veterans throughout Northwest Oklahoma.
Service officers give, without remuneration, their time to assist veterans from the area in making claims and appeals based upon injuries and illnesses suffered in the service of our country.
Service officers include: Karl Girty, Mike McCauley, James Stark, Craig Vance and Donald Eck.
Every Monday through Friday, they are in the office to serve veterans from 9 a.m. to noon and other times by appointment, whether the veterans are members or not.
Thanks to their efforts many veterans who would otherwise be indigent can achieve some degree of normalcy in their daily lives. Any veteran who needs to file a claim or an appeal can call our office at (580) 242-3808.
I also want to recognize the work the DAV does in transporting veterans, whether they are members or not, to the VA Medical Center on a daily basis.
Brett Pyle, our hospital service coordinator, serves as a contact point for those who need transportation to the VAMC.
Brett is the often driver, leaving Enid as early as 5 a.m. Veterans needing transport to the VAMC can call Pyle at (580) 478-7027.
Our mission is critical and receives no federal, state or municipal funds. We are entirely dependent on donations.
Currently we are seeking to replace our van, which has more than 171,000 miles on it.
In the event a reader wishes to support our vital service to all veterans, whether serving in war or in peace time, donations may be sent to Northwest Oklahoma DAV Chapter 66, 601 N. 26th Street, Enid, OK, 73701.
Speakers are available by calling (580) 242-3808.
