Regarding Tyler Bowen’s March 27 letter:
Yes, the marriage issue again faces the U.S. Supreme Court.
Recall my asking you (letter, Feb. 6, 2004), “when our legislators stick their heads in the sand, what part of us does that leave exposed?” That void paved the way for Mr. Bowen’s gay friends.
Legislators pontificate, and radical groups step up. The gays will get their questions answered, while marriage dies a slow death.
Statistically, it our second-least successful institution, exceeded only by prisons. Prisons’ success rate: about 20 percent. See the connection? Your system produces too many unsuccessful citizens.
Marriage is only partly to blame. Bottom line: You refuse to define “family,” its obligations, its scope, its rights, etc., because you are afraid to.
Lives are being crushed hourly while you fiddle. Until you modernize its legal structure, you are a train wreck happening over and over.
You create more and more crimes, but preserve a 15th century system that locks up broken spirits and breaks them again, and you call it “Corrections Department?” Liar, liar, pants on fire.
At least gays can read. You cannot until you pull your head out. Until then, you are showing it.
