Letter: Why should citizens use ad valorem tax on mall?

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — Would someone please explain to me why the taxpaying citizens of Enid should be forced to use ad valorem tax to help pay for tearing down a mall we use and enjoy, especially in the cold winter and the heat of summer?

Our city leaders, in fairness to the people they represent, should, at the very least, allow us to vote on the matter and then follow the will of the people.

If the owners of the mall want it torn down, they should pay by themselves — not the people who want to keep it.

We have several other costly projects already in progress. We could find ourselves in a financial mess if we don’t slow down this “full speed ahead” (a naval term) attitude.
