Will Rogers Daily Telegrams 3-27-2014

ENID, Okla. — ROGERS IN HOSPITAL, ENVIES ONLY REBECCA, PET RACCOON

CALIFORNIA HOSPITAL, HOLLYWOOD, Cal. — June 17, 1927. 11 o’clock Friday morning. When you lay in a bed. you naturally feel sorry for yourself.

Then you get to thinking of other people and how bad off they are.

So right now I can’t think of a soul that I would change places with, except Rebecca, Coolidge’s pet raccoon.

Who would have ever thought that coon would get to summer in the Black Hills?

Will Rogers.

P. S. – Well, here comes the wagon. I do hope my scar will not suffer in size with other, older and more experienced scars.

JUST A LINE FROM WILL ROGERS

ON HIS BED IN THE HOSPITAL

CALIFORNIA HOSPITAL, HOLLYWOOD, Cal. — June 19, 1927.

“Relax – lay perfectly still, just relax.”

Will Rogers.

NOTE – Mr. Rogers was operated on in the California Hospital on Friday and last night was reported to be making steady progress toward recovery.

ROGERS HEARS FROM PRESIDENT AND HE ‘DOES APPRECIATE IT’

CALIFORNIA HOSPITAL, Hollywood, Cal., June 21, 1927. – I got this today:

Executive Office

Rapid City, S. D.

June 20, 1927 Mr. Will Rogers, Beverly Hills, Calif.:

I am sincerely sorry to hear of your illness and trust your recovery may be speedy and complete.

Calvin Coolidge.

Well, I certainly do appreciate that. It was mighty thoughtful, and I hope he and that wonderful wife have a wonderful Summer.

And I got lovely wires from Senators Borah, Jim Reed, Pat Harrison and Capper; also Alice and Nick and all my friends. Everybody that I make a living kidding about seemed to be watching for some turn in my illness. People couldn’t have been any nicer to me if I had died.

Yours,

Will Rogers.

P. S. — If an automobilist has lost two inner tubes, if he will communicate with me he will learn something to his advantage.

WILL ROGERS COMMENTS ON TENDERNESS FOR THE WORM

CALIFORNIA HOSPITAL, Hollywood, Cal., June 23, 1927. – The West sho’ has tamed. The Society for the Protection of Single and Unmatured Worms won’t let Calvin load his hook with one.

Next they’ll be requiring an anesthetic be given the fish. Why, anybody that knows Cal knows he wouldn’t harm a fish or a worm.

Besides, who knows when they will grow up and have a vote? Sincerely Yours,

Will.

We caught the vision when, in May of 1961, John F. Kennedy told Congress, and the world, that the space race was no longer to be so one-sided.
“First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth,” he said.

As Americans, we have taken water for granted far, far too long. We assume it will always be there, when we turn on the tap.

Nowhere in the flight attendants’ patter did the word “missile” appear, and the chance their gleaming Boeing 777 would be brutally slapped from the sky likely never even appeared even as a niggling doubt lurking in the darkest corners of the passengers’ minds.

Maybe we could learn a little from past history. Most know the original national monument was given by the people of France in recognition to a friendship that bloomed during the American Revolution.

I get what the wheat farmers are sore at Hoover about. He wouldn’t let them hold up the people for bread during the war. Their excuse is that everybody else held us up, so why pick on them.
