Letter: Oakwood Mall sets Enid apart from other towns

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — The Oakwood Mall absolutely is the main thing that sets Enid apart from every town between Oklahoma City and beyond, and this elite group of people want to tear it down.

Not even that expensive eyesore downtown, or that mausoleum out north, could ever compare to the benefits so many people get from this mall daily.

If “the powers that be” in Enid spent half as much time finding other solutions for their tax problems, as they spent on their ridiculous plans to demolish out great mall, they could have found a plan to keep everyone happy.

However, it would have been great for the Enid News & Eagle to be the voice of the citizens.

In its Nov. 4 editorial, the News & Eagle not only endorsed the project, but pretty much said let’s get this show on the road. So much for their help!

If you think “seniors” are the only ones to enjoy our mall, show up some morning and you will find several young mothers who made the effort to get numerous babies dressed and in the buggies, and all walking inside the mall.

Tough luck, ladies! The city wants to tear down our mall, and we can’t do a darned thing about it!

We’ve heard some real doozies over these years from these folks, but they have really outdone themselves this time.

It beats me how so few people have so much influence about something so many people love and should have been able to count on being there — forever!

Blue collar comedian Ron White wrote this book and speaks about it at length.

The title is “You Can’t Fix Stupid,” and that’s a fact!

I also have an old saying I sincerely believe in:

“If it isn’t broke, for heavens’ sake, don’t fix it!”
