Thumbs up and a happy Father’s Day to all the dads

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — Thumbs up to all the dads out there who are doing their best to raise their children and take care of their families.

It’s Father’s Day, and you deserve a pat on the back for the job you do. It’s not always easy and it’s not always fun and games, but it’s worth it.

Enjoy your day today fathers.

Thumbs up to Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, which presented its Operation Orange camp at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid last week.

The camp gives high school students a taste of what a career in medicine might be like.

It’s not all fun and games either. The camp has a serious side, which is to give students who might be interested in a medical career as a chance to see what it’s like to be a medical student.

A goal is to increase the number of future physicians who practice in rural areas.

Good job with the camp.

Thumbs up to Enid Higher Education Council, which recently presents more than $115,000 each to Northern Oklahoma College Enid and Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid for scholarships.

EHEC is a 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds for scholarships for students on the Enid campuses.

The council was formed after Phillips University closed in the late-1990s and currently provides $1,000 scholarships to 20 recipients.

This kind of commitment to education is outstanding.

This is a bittersweet thumbs up.

It goes to Ronna Richards, the long-time administrative assistant for United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma who died June 10.

She went about her job with dedication and enthusiasm and was a big reason why events such as the annual United Way golf tournament and Chili Cook-Off were so successful. They’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for United Way.

Ronna Richards will be missed.
