We are and would like to remain recyclers in Enid.
However, the last three trips to the recycling pickup center — located at the Enid City Landfill — my husband witnessed our recyclables being placed in the section that the staff stated was the discarded trash area of the recyclables.
In other words, to our understanding, it was going into the landfill as ordinary trash.
The first time he noticed the recyclables being placed in that area, he only suspected what was being done.
The second time, approximately one week later, he questioned the staff, and they acknowledged that it was the trash area. At that time, they summoned the person who placed it in there to retrieve it immediately.
The third time he noticed it, again, on June 10. My husband informed them once more, and they again had the same person retrieve it from the trash.
If this type of behavior has been noticed by us, it is surely being done with many recyclers/recyclables in Enid.
Recycling is an important function for our future, and the integrity of the program should be maintained so that people will continue to take the time to do it.
