Letter: Oppose Oklahoma’s proposed income tax reduction

ENID, Okla. — Oklahomans, if you agree with our governor and the Republican Legislature that reducing the state income tax will encourage companies to come to Oklahoma, then I would like to visit with you to purchase shares in my proposed Ponzi scheme. Companies do not consider/care about a state income tax structure in their consideration to become established in a given state! These companies are interested in what tax-exempt status they can achieve from the state, city or county in establishing their company in a given state.

In addition, these companies are interested in the type of workforce that exists in a state to properly meet their company staffing requirements. Our state is sorely lacking in the funding requirements for secondary and higher education institutions, which is very important for a highly skilled workforce. Companies will certainly see this Oklahoma problem. Our state is also lacking in the necessary funding of state agencies which serve the citizens of our state. This is a basic reason our state has crumbling bridges, maintenance of roads and agencies failing to provide the proper service due to under-staffing. This lack of funding will certainly damage Oklahoma’s future.

So please, do not let the governor and Republican Legislature blow smoke in your ears regarding their proposed income tax reduction.
