Enid News and Eagle
ENID, Okla. —
I want to thank you for the unprecedented coverage that the Enid News and Eagle gave to the 2014 Oklahoma Mission of Mercy held this past weekend at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center.
Your many news stories helped OkMOM recruit a record 2,000 plus volunteers to provide free dental care to those in need.
A total of 1,465 patients received $1,344,540 in donated dental services (an all time high for any OkMOM event).
There were 11,786 individual dental procedures performed (smashing the previous OkMOM record of 7,042 procedures). Each patient averaged $917 in free dental care (breaking the old OkMOM record of $633 per patient average).
As you can see, OkMOM touched many individuals and was very instrumental in helping them achieve better oral health — improved oral health that they might not have been able to get without the help of OkMOM.
Your promotion of this event helped make this possible.
I would like to specially commend News and Eagle reporter, Phyllis Zorn, for her accurate and precise reporting about OkMOM.
She always took the time to make sure her facts were correct. She was a pleasure to work with.
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not thank our wonderful Enid community for the support given to OkMOM.
Without the involvement of many individuals locally, this project would not have been possible.
Those that did participate should take pride in the fact that they helped impact the lives of 1,465 dental patients!
As you said in your editorial on Feb. 11, “It’s this kind of volunteerism that makes Enid and Oklahoma great places to live.”
