There’s still time to donate to the Food for Kids program

Enid News & Eagle

ENID, Okla. — During this busy Christmas season, we’re again asking Enid News & Eagle readers to participate in the Community Christmas Card to raise money for the Food for Kids backpack program in Garfield County.

The fundraising effort has started slower this year than anticipated. The News & Eagle asks readers to participate in signing a Community Christmas Card that will be published in a Christmas edition of the newspaper. Donors are asked to give a minimum of $1 per name they wish to place on the card.

All proceeds from the Community Christmas Card go to the local schools for their Food for Kids backpack program. The program is sponsored through Oklahoma Regional Food Bank.

The program provides backpacks filled with non-perishable food items to children in Garfield County schools who have been identified as chronically hungry. The backpacks are given out on Fridays to the students at school.

Families, church groups, individuals and even businesses sign the card each year. The card will publish as a full-page advertisement in a Christmas edition of the newspaper.

Readers may sign the Community Christmas Card by coming by the Enid News & Eagle office, 227 W. Broadway, between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays, or by mailing a check to Community Christmas Card, c/o Enid News & Eagle, P.O. Box 1192, Enid, OK 73702.

If you’ve donated to this important project before, we give you our sincere thanks and appreciation. Our readers have been very generous and compassionate to Food for Kids in the past, and we hope this yuletide tradition continues.
